Ouch!The Hard Truth!
"I didn't know that would make me gain weight that quick!!"
The typical answer I would hear whenever I told someone the hard truth.
Not many people are aware that they are unconsciously or rather "Habitually" doing things that are making them gain weight.
I'm talking about the typical "Once in awhile can laah" attitude or the "I'm just tired and hungry..I just want to eat what is nice now"
Funny thing is, usually those who say those things are the ones who are overweight. (I wonder whyyy?)
Most people around the age of 30 would realize things can really get out of hand when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle - Their metabolism starts to slow down A LOT and life just gets more challenging.
I don't blame them. When we are too busy and stressed, our health and weight are the least important things on our mind.
But, with the right mindset and strategies, I believe we can always prevent the worst from happening (Like going from someone who is slim to flabby fat overweight person)
8 Biggest Weight Loss Mistakes To Avoid!
1) Eating More Than You Should
Really broo???Thanks Captain Obvious!
Sounds familiar right? This mistake is sooo cliche and common yet it is STILL happening right now as we speak.
Why? Because, we have lost our natural relationship with food. Our natural bodily systems that controls our hunger and appetite or when to start searching for food and when to stop eating has gone "out of order".
We blame it on life, on our spouse, on our children for not finishing their foods, on social gathering and meetings that happens every weekends, but not knowing what is the cause in the first place.
2) Choosing Healthier Choice Of Foods..Wait What?
You might be wondering how can healthy food cause weight gain?
Don't get me wrong.
The truth is, healthy or not, the food we eat will still be stored as fats if we eat them in excess.
That means even when you're having broccoli, brown rice, and some chicken breast, you could still gain weight from eating too much of these foods.
That healthier choice label on the foods we purchased won't help us lose weight if we are still having twice as what we are suppose to have anyway.
3) Eating Foods That Increase Your Appetite
Certain foods with high in sugar, salt, and fat contents would easily spike our insulin levels and messed up our appetite badly. These ingredients make us addicted to the food badly causing a weight gain vicious cycle.
Like some people who can't stop having potato chips once they eat a few or some of us who would get addicted to ice creams or Frappe's.
The consequence is far more serious than just being addicted to the taste.
Some research has shown that when we relate these flavors as a stress reliever or as a way to make us feel "good" after a long day at work. These addictive foods could actually act as drugs.
4) Drinking Too Much High Calorie Drinks
High calorie drinks are the most deadly of them all really.
Just a cup of coffee with condensed milk would add up to 150 kcal depending on how much condensed milk was added into the coffee.
If you're always dependent on coffee to start your day or to keep yourself awake after 3.00pm, then you might be taking in quick high calorie drinks without knowing.
The way things are nowadays, drinks are so sweet most people would say "Waah..cut leg ah this drink".
Even fruit juice might be causing you to take in excess calories too.
5) Eating Irregularly
Don't get confused irregular meals with intermittent fasting.
Eating irregularly really means you have no idea what time you would usually eat on a daily basis.
When we don't eat our meals on a regular basis we get "Hangry". A term we refer to as someone who is hungry and angry at the same time.
Hangry is a real thing. We have almost no control of our food choices in that state.
We would just choose any food that pops up in our mind or any foods that come into our view without ever reflecting whether it is healthy or not.
6) Focusing Too Much On Cardio Or Running
Some people who are overzealous would have this sudden rage to start working out hard neglecting any possibilities of injuries.
It's like someone had just injected themselves with Rage Juice or a Power Up Drug and they got all "Me Smash Me Must Get Strong!" and start going too hard on exercises.
When they do this, the first reaction they would get from their body is an increase in appetite like never before and they would get so fatigue that it would last more than a week.
When this happens, they would start to eat more food and end up giving up doing any exercises.
7) Stressed Up With Everything In life
Our emotions have a lot more influenced on our body than we thought.
Stress is part and parcel of life, but when the stress level gets really high and when it happens frequently our body starts to breakdown from the inside.
When was the last time you see a stressed mum or dad who looked all fit and buff?
Usually, they are the ones that are spending more time (and money) on "Cheap Thrills". They would literally go to the ends of the world to find things that would help them unwind even if its for awhile or would hurt their health.
Stress, on the other hand affect our choices of food and usually in such situations we prefer food that makes us feel good which are likely to be fattening and sweet.
Stress also prevents us from planning ahead or making the right decisions. Try planning a workout regime when you're bombarded with exceeding bills, meetings, and two crying babies.
8) Sometimes I have 7 Hours Of Sleep..Sometimes?
Sleep and stress go hand in hand.
But, all of us knew with an upcoming important deadline, or with a new born baby at home, sleep has become a luxury and not a necessity anymore.
Lack of sleep increases stress levels in the body and directly messes up with our decisions and appetite.
Lack of sleep also affect our metabolism making it less effective at turning the food we eat into usable energy and it makes us more prone to get fatter.
So, if you happened to be gaining weight recently, check your reflections in the mirror. If you see a big black patch underneath your eyes, you would probably know why you are gaining weight.
Take Note and Take Heed
It can be hard to avoid all of these in the situation we're in. I remembered I had projects to do, family matters to attend to, and I was working overtime for most of the days.
I had to skip workout days and had no time to make my own meal. But, that doesn't stop me from finding alternatives.
There are always healthier choices of food outside to keep me full yet it doesn't make me gain weight and drinks to help keep myself awake without adding in more calories.
Knowing that I would be tired due to lack of sleep would mean that going to the gym is not an option. So, I did short burst of exercises at home using my dumbbells and body weight.
While that doesn't count as training, it is still a form of exercise which helps with my sleep quality and conditioning.
I believe everyone of us can find at least 1 or 2 healthier alternatives in whatever situation we are in. We just need to learn more and have a positive mindset.
